SPAES Enhances Helicopter Safety with Targeted Minor Changes
SPAES GmbH & Co. KG has implemented a Minor Change for the integration of the Aural Warning Information System (AWIS) in various helicopter models, including the BO-105 and EC135. The installation significantly improves pilot situational awareness and contributes to enhanced flight safety.
In the BO-105, the AWIS was installed in the chin compartment below the cockpit and connected to the existing KRA-10 radar altimeter, KI-250 radar altimeter indicator, and KMA-28 audio panel. This configuration enables precise auditory alerts for the decision height, supporting the flight crew during critical flight phases. The AWIS box was securely mounted to the aircraft structure using four screws and self-locking nuts, ensuring a stable and durable installation.
In the EC135, the AWIS was installed on the aft avionic deck and integrated with the aircraft’s intercom system, allowing for seamless audio alerts. The unit was fixed using four inserts and screws for secure attachment and reliable operation under all flight conditions.
The installation of the AWIS in both aircraft types was performed by the customer’s EASA Part-145 approved maintenance organization, following the instructions provided by SPAES as part of the Minor Change package.
“These AWIS installations underline our commitment to advancing pilot alerting systems and operational safety. We ensure that each integration is executed with technical precision and regulatory compliance,” says Joachim Schanz, CEO at SPAES.
