Design and Manufacturing of a Medical Storage Cabinet

SPAES creates a medical storage cabinet using composite materials

In a recent project, SPAES designed and approved a Medical Storage Cabinet for the air rescue operator DRF Luftrettung gAG. Pilots and paramedics have rated the Medical Storage Cabinet as useful to safely store equipment in the passenger cabin of their Learjet 35A.

First, measurements were taken inside the aircraft for creating the 3D data of the cabinet. After that, a wooden prototype was created that was used for a fit-check and additional adjustments have been completed. The fit-check’s revised measurements were utilized to build the final design. Then it entered production.

Two Medical Storage Cabinets were manufactured. One was used for testing to gauge the strength of the cabinet’s construction using actual loads. After the successful pull test the second cabinet was finalized for the customer. At the end, the Medical Storage Cabinet was delivered personally to the DRF Luftrettung gAG.

The Medical Storage Cabinet is robust and lightweight thanks to its honeycomb fiberglass construction.

The manufacturing was completed inhouse in SPAES’ own EASA Part 21G Production Organization with the issue of an EASA Form 1. The installation approval was certified with a Minor Change in the own EASA Part 21J Design Organization.

The Medical Storage Cabinets can be customized. Different colors or more shelves are available based on request.
